Constructed for Santander Bank PLC these are two new data centre buildings at their existing facility on the outskirts of Leicester, with each building including a double level basement. The development consists of two identical buildings, each hardened to meet stringent security and engineering requirements. Specialist water proofing and bomb blast designs were employed to ensure building security both for below and above ground requirements. As data centers are operational 24/7 they can consume vast amount of electricity and as this electricity is used to power the servers and process all the data, it generates a lot of heat. This heat needs to be effectively removed otherwise the electrical components will overheat, fail or even catch fire.
